New :: ‘Mindfulness of the Body’ Yoga Classes

“There is one thing that when cultivated and regularly practiced, leads to deep spiritual intention, to peace, to mindfulness and clear comprehension, to vision and knowledge, to a happy life here and now and to the culmination of wisdom and awakening. And what is that one thing? It is mindfulness centered on the body.” Buddha

I’m coming to know that Mindfulness Centered on the Body, much like Breath Awareness is not an intellectual pursuit.

It’s not thinking about how feeling the body is a good practice for Presence. Or analyzing why Body Centered Mindfulness is beneficial. Or debating about which current trend of Mindfulness based body and meditation practices is best.

It is simply an experiential practice of returning to the sensations of my body. Again and again (and again) throughout the day, returning to the actual feeling of the aliveness of my body. In the moments when I’m hurraying, the moments when I’m in conversation, the moments at my computer, the moments before falling asleep.

It’s tough, because my discursive mind has so much to say about it. It wants to analyze, debate, control the moment and my mindfulness.

When I’m caught in the analyzing, debating and controlling, I practice just letting my mind be and returning to experience – feeling my body, feeing my breath and opening my senses.

In fleeting moments, I am finding peace, openness and an organic responsiveness in centering my attention in this way. But it is an ongoing practice – each day, each moment, each sensation asking for my awake attention.

It would be a joy and an honor to practice with you in my online studio. Look for the Mindfulness of the Body Restorative and Mindfulness of the Body Level I/II Yoga Classes and Breath, Body, Quiet Guided Meditation.
